The standards are changing. Here’s what you need to know..
The advancement from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) have recently been published. The new standards include changes to the rating scale and standardization of testing methodology. Until this time the CPPT (Cut Protection Performance Test) was the preferred method for establishing cut performance standards. This method obtains a rating based on a weight needed to cut through a material. Here a glove is mounted on a cylindrical support, and a standard blade moves across the material at a constant speed until it cuts through. Cut levels are imported in grams on a scale of level 1 to 5.
The new ANSI standard introduces TDM machine. Here is a specific area is cut along a straight path by a straight edge blade under force. The new European EN388 standard uses the same cut test method. The new test method will ensure uniform test results to make it easy to compare scores for different materials and products to reinforce the compatibility between the two international standards.
